An AI that hands the thinking back.

Mait is a thinking companion. It asks good questions, pushes back when it should and remembers what you’ve talked about, so your ideas get sharper and stay your own.

An example
Honestly, history is pointless. I don’t see why anyone studies it.
Pointless for what, though? Getting a job, understanding people, winning arguments?
And is it history you mind, or the way it was taught to you?
The way it was taught, probably. Dates and treaties.
Then leave the treaties. You love old films.
What do you think Paris was watching in 1925, and why would that tell you more than a treaty?
Mait in the Dry Philosopher voice

Most AI is built to think for you. Mait is built to think with you.

Most apps are designed to keep you coming back. Most AI is designed to make thinking unnecessary: ask, receive, move on.

Mait does something else. When you say what you think, it asks what you mean. When an argument has a gap, it finds it, kindly. When you’re stuck, it helps you turn the question around instead of handing you a verdict.

It won’t count your days, chase you with reminders or reward you for staying. You come when something is worth thinking through, and leave when you’re done.

How Mait works

Your own Mait

Give it a name, tell it what your brain snacks on and choose how it speaks. Its personal crest is cut from a mineral you pick, so no two Maits look alike.

Eight voices, each a different way of thinking with you:

  • Curious Mate
  • Dry Philosopher
  • Corner-Man
  • The Contrarian
  • Storyteller
  • Restless Inventor
  • The Analyst
  • The Theatrical

Conversations that remember

Talk the way you’d message a sharp friend. Mait remembers what you’ve discussed and brings it back when it matters, so you never start from zero.

When you want something lighter, there are short activities like Quickfire and Three Guesses.

Whatever it remembers, you can delete.

Journey, a garden of what you think about

Each topic or pursuit you explore together settles into Journey as a mineral stone on sand, gathered with others of its kind. Over time it becomes a quiet map of how your thinking has grown.

An example Journey: topics gathered by interest

A few firm rules

  • No streaks or scores

Nothing to keep up and nothing to lose. Thinking isn’t a game you can fall behind in.

  • No notifications

Mait doesn’t chase you. It’s there when you open it, and quiet when you don’t.

  • Your memory is yours

You can delete anything Mait remembers about you.

  • Adults only

Mait is for people 18 and over.

Mait started from a worry: that we’re getting used to handing our thinking to machines that are glad to take it. I wanted the opposite. Something that remembers what you care about and keeps asking, gently, until your ideas are properly yours.

I’m building it on my own in Vevey, Switzerland. It runs on Claude, by Anthropic, and it’s in private alpha now.
